Kristen Wiig’s ‘Welcome to Me’ Bought for U.S. by Millennium

Millennium Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Kristen Wiig’s comedy “Welcome to Me,” three months after it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

The movie also stars Wes Bentley, Linda Cardellini, Joan Cusack, Loretta Devine, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Thomas Mann, James Marsden and Tim Robbins.

Shira Piven directed from a script by Eliot Laurence. Production companies are Bron Studios and Gary Sanchez Productions in association with Media House Capital. Producers are Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Aaron L. Gilbert, Marina Grasic, Jessica Elbaum, and Kristen Wiig.

Millennium plans to release the film next year.

Variety‘s Justin Chang gave “Welcome to Me” a positive review at Toronto, calling it “often startlingly inspired.”

Wiig stars in the film as a fame-obsessed woman who, after winning $86 million in lottery money, decides to spend it all on a TV show about herself.

Jason Resnick negotiated the film on behalf of Millennium Entertainment. UTA Independent Film Group and WME Global represented the filmmakers in the deal.

The management team of Millennium Entertainment led by CEO Bill Lee and Virgo Investment Group partnered in August to acquire the Millennium Entertainment catalog assets and film distribution platform from a consortium of investors. As a result, Millennium Entertainment will undergo a name change in the coming months.
