Frank Langella has joined romance film The Driftless Area, an adaptation of Tom Drury’s novel of the same title.
The film, which will star Anton Yelchin, Zooey Deschanel, John Hawkes, Ciaran Hinds and Alia Shawkat, will begin principal photography on May 14 in Vancouver.
Zachary Sluser, who co-wrote the screenplay with Drury, will direct the film, which centers on the young love between a bartender and a mysterious woman. Their relationship is threatened after the bartender, Pierre, gets mixed up with a dangerous crook and his bag of stolen cash.
Keith Kjarval is producing through his Unified Pictures production-finance banner with Aaron L. Gilbert, via Bron Studios, in association with CW Media Finance. Nicole Romano at Anonymous Content manages Sluser and is an executive producer on the film.
Foreign sales are being handled by Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International, who will present the project to buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market. CAA, which packaged the project, represents the film’s domestic distribution rights.
Langella, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in Frost/Nixon, can currently be seen in theaters in Draft Day opposite Kevin Costner. His other upcoming projects include Grace of Monaco, which is opening the Cannes Film Festival, and 5 to 7 opposite Glenn Close. He’s repped by Paradigm.
